Snowball, my white budgie passed away on Wednesday, January 2nd. She laid an egg on Christmas day, and had complications, a prolapse. We took her to the vet, and she got medication (suppository, ouch), but it didn't help much. She was six years and three or four months old, pretty young for a budgie.

She passed away in my hands Wednesday morning. Her last moments were full of hugs and kisses, and much love from both my mom and me. Her mate sat next to us and watched, he got a chance to say goodbye as well.

We buried her in our front yard yesterday, and made a cross on her grave out of white, pink, red and blue pebbles that we have. We will plant my rose on her grave in the spring.

We all miss her: her gentle personality, love for kisses, cuddles and goofy fetch games. She was an angel, a tiny bundle of joy with a huge heart.


Her mate is doing alright, currently chirping to one of my speakers as a budgie video is playing on Youtube. I know he'd be much happier with another budgie, but he's seven years old. I don't like the idea of getting a baby budgie and then when he dies for the new budgie to be alone; it wouldn't be fair to it. I thought about getting two new budgies to solve that problem, but we have horrible luck with pets; Snowball was the fifth we lost, so we don't feel comfortable with the idea. We've looked into getting an older budgie, but there aren't any in the local shelters and the closest older budgie we found online is over 4 hours' drive away, too far for us. So far he's been hanging out with us since he's tame, but I don't know if that's good enough for him. Anyone got any ideas?
